Investigation in Construction Entrepreneurship.

Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is to clarify the process in the establishment of a small construction firm. The thesis has primarily studied the establishment of a construction business in the metropolitan Boston area, but the principles discussed are applicable throughout all societies which recognize an individual's pursuit of their own business. Included is a study of general entrepreneurship, a discussion of the characteristics of the construction industry which differentiates it from a general business venture, case studies of six construction start-ups, and an overall analysis. An attempt is made to characterize construction entrepreneurship by studying, in detail, the motivation to pursue this career progression, the transitional period, reflecting on the risks and benefits of such a move, and recommendations for future ventures.
