Investigation of the Biological Effects of Pulsed Electrical Fields

Abstract

Research conducted during the contracting period has involved a continuation of an investigation of the in vivo effects of exposure of Dutch rabbits to electromagnetic pulsed (EMP) fields and an in vitro study of the effects of transient electrical and electromagnetic fields on biomembranes. Phenomenological studies of the effects of EMP exposure of Dutch rabbits have been undertaken in an attempt to characterize the nature of the alterations induced by suchfields, whereas the biomembrane studies have been directed toward a mechanistic understanding of field-induced alterations in biological model systems.
