Noise Studies on Injected-Beam Crossed-Field Devices.

Abstract

The purpose of the work reported here was to investigate experimentally noise and instabilities in crossed-field electron guns, and to correlate noise measurements with beam configurations as measured in the beam analyzer developed by Northrop with Air Force support. The beam tester measures beam location by collisions which take place between the electron beam and a helium molecular beam injected at right angles to the electron beam. (Author)
