A Cartographic Computer Data Format and Associated Programs.

Abstract

This document explains the need for a new computer data format, not previously available, for the storage of cartographic information. A suitable format is described, together with a set of computer programs which have been written to enable data files in this format to be created, manipulated and displayed in various ways. This document is concerned with the storage of data representing some form of 'picture' of the Earth's surface, as viewed almost vertically downwards from one of the 'Landsat' series of orbiting satellites, using its multispectral scanner.
