Implementation of the Graphics-Oriented Interactive Finite Element Time-Sharing System (GIFTS) on the PDP-11.

Abstract

The Graphics-oriented, Interactive, Finite Element Time-sharing System (GIFTS), written by Professor A. Kamel and Mr. Michael McCabe of the University of Arizona, has been implemented on the PDP-11 at the Naval Postgraduate School. This powerful system of programs was installed in a manner to facilitate its modification in the future. A very brief description of the GIFTS system, including the Unified Data Base, as well as the PDP-11 and RSK-11M operating system, are provided. Finally, a systematic approach to building and/or modifying the GIFTS system in the future is included. The approach taken includes a 'File Sorter' program which removes the need for much of the tedious work associated with building the system. (Author)
