Purchasing Productivity Measurement Systems.

Abstract

The research focused on the measurement of productivity in purchasing organizations, in both the public and private sectors. The research was conducted by a review of the current literature, field research and survey of key purchasing personnel. The purpose of the research was to develop an effective method of measuring the productivity of a purchasing organization. The results of this research indicate that purchasing productivity measurement systems serve a variety of management needs: control of purchase organizations, projecting and distributing personnel resource needs, preparation of budgets and the improvement of productivity. The major contribution of the study is the identification of the essential parameters of an effective productivity measurement model. The model was then tailored to the needs of a public sector field purchasing activity. (Author)
