A Study of Free Convection in an Inclined, Rectangular Cavity.
Abstract
A small experimental apparatus was designed for the measurement of heat flux across an enclosed, rectangular air cavity, which could be placed at any angle of inclination. The heat flux evaluation was done with the help of an interferometer. Heat flux was determined for five aspect ratios, each placed at four different angles and two different temperature differences for each setting. The average Nusselt number was found to be primarily a function of Grashof number or Rayleigh number. Three correlation equations developed by earlier studies are fitted to the data. The correlation equations are found to approximate the heat flux within + or - 11%, up to a Grashof number of 1.2 million. (Author)
