Japanese Research Institutes Funded by Ministries Other Than Education.
Abstract
A major difficulty faced by visitors to Japan, and those trying to contact Japanese scientists, is the lack of a comprehensive listing of investigators and laboratories. An attempt to satisfy this need was begun earlier with a predecessor volume, 'Japanese Research Institutes Funded by the Ministry of Education,' by Seikoh Sakiyama, which was published as ONR Tokyo Scientific Monograph M2 ( a similar listing of research institutes funded by the Ministry of Education has recently been published by the Japan Society for Promotion of Science). Copies of that volume are still available from this office. The present volume completed the series and lists research institutes funded by other ministries of the Japanese government. In this volume, the name, address, and telephone number of 159 institutes are given. Explanatory notes are added where the specialty of the laboratory is more restricted than indicated by its name, where the name might be open to misinterpretation, or where the laboratory covers more than one specialty.
