Aspects of Visual Search Activity Related to Attentional Processes and Skill Development

Abstract

The research was conducted and completed in four phases. (1) Selection of a general version of a visual information processing task and development of a hardware/software system for task presentation. (2) Preliminary study comparing the effectiveness of several variations of the task, evaluating oculomotor changes, performance variation, and subject's subjective report. (3) A formal study was conducted. (4) The acquired data was reduced, software development of an analysis system for saccade amplitude-velocity measures continued, and a feasibility study was conducted to assess the possible development of a portable microcomputer system for field measurement of oculomotor parameters.
