Role of Complement in Blood Preservation and Blood Banking.

Abstract

Experiments were undertaken to evaluate the role of complement in erythrocyte preservation. The major objective of the initial studies has been the development of a new immunochemical method to quantitate cell-bound C3. This method is based on the principles of antiglobulin (anti-C3) consumption, and it utilizes C3 sensitized zymosan as standards, the calibration of which is presently under study.
