Computerized Adaptive Testing. A Case Study.

Abstract

This thesis is a case study of mental testing in the military as it applies to mental qualifications for service. The thesis begins with a review of the literature concerning the history of mental testing, particularly in the military services, through the current Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) forms -8, -9, and -10. Then, a discussion of issues facing mental testing in general is presented, followed by a report of research into Computerized Adaptive Testing (CAT) currently conducted at the Navy Personnel Research and Development Center, San Diego. Finally, a concluding chapter discusses some considerations involved in the implementation of CAT. (Author)
