Methods Improvement of the Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection (FPI) Process.

Abstract

This program investigates key steps and inspection variables to identify those which significantly influence the sensitivity and reliability of Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection (FPI) in an engine maintenance/overhaul facility. The program is composed of two technical phases: (1) surface preparation procedures, and (2) FPI process variables. The program develops surface preparation procedures and optimized FPI process which can lead to improvements of FPI capability without any degradation of structural integrity of engine components.
