Development of Gasless Pyrotechnic Cap

Abstract

A new gasless pyrotechnic percussion cap composition was developed and tested in M42 cup assemblies. The sensitivity was comparable to M42 caps and preliminary tests indicated that the stability of the composition was satisfactory. The composition produced minimum gaseous by-products and gave an adequate output to ignite pyrotechnic delay units reliably. The new composition overcomes the problem of cap ejection and venting due to the high pressures produced by traditional percussion cap compositions in hermetically sealed systems.
