Fatigue Life Variability in Aluminium Alloy Aircraft Structures

Abstract

A survey of variability in the fatigue lives of aluminium alloy aircraft structures tested under gust and manoeuvre loadings using programmed and random sequences has shown that scatter associated with gust loading is significantly higher than that for manoeuvre loading. By contrast, there appears to be no systematic effect of loading sequence. The data have been treated both as lognormal and Weibull distributed.
