On the Nature of Boundary Conditions for Crack Tip Stress.

Abstract

Our recent calculations on crack tip stresses were scrutinized by Atkinson (1980), suggesting that our scheme of calculations is not uniform and the solution of the problem may not actually exist. Here we show that these difficulties arise because of the use of incorrect boundary conditions by Atkinson. Also, we give an exact solution of a problem which refutes the suggested inexistence.
