Airborne Laser Sea Ice Profiles Near a Drifting Camp, April 1977.

Abstract

This Technical Note reports the results of reduction and preliminary analysis of airborne-laser sea-ice surface profiles obtained in April 1977 from Fram Strait between northern Greenland and Spitzbergen. Data reduction consists of the removal of discontinuities in the profiles, and numerical computer filtering to remove aircraft motion. Analysis consists of computer calculations of descriptive statistics. The data set chosen is in proximity to an ice camp (Ruby) operated by personnel from the Polar Research Laboratory, Santa Barbara, California. Aerial photography taken simultaneously with the laser profiles serves to place the profile data precisely with respect to Camp Ruby on 12 April 1977. (Author)
