Lehigh River Basin, Hydropower Study. Stage 1. Reconnaissance Report.

Abstract

The purpose of the Lehigh River Basin hydropower study is to assess the potential of hydroelectric power development in the entire Lehigh River Basin, Pa. and to develop a plan for this development by consideration of all possible alternatives to optimize the basin's hydropower production. The scope of this plan is to include both public and private sectors. This particular reconnaissance report presents the results of a Stage 1 investigation of the water resources of the Lehigh River Basin, Pa. It provides a framework under which further studies will be undertaken by placing emphasis on data collection and problem identification. A description of the study area as to its natural resources including climate, hydrology, geology, soils, fish and wildlife; its human and economic resources; cultural and scenic resources is given. Several hydropower management alternatives are also presented. (Author)
