Sign Polar Return-to-Zero Telemetry and Coding Logic

Abstract

An existing telemetry scheme employs Bipolar Return-to-Zero (BPRZ) logic to encode binary information. The BPRZ provides for trilevel waveform pulse code modulation; however, the current implementation does not use the full capacity of the BPRZ logic. Sign Polar Return-to-Zero encoding exploits the remaining encoding capacity to provide an additional bit transfer per channel word. This implementation transfers the word argument sign information by the polarity encoding of the first nonzero pulse in each telemetry word pulse encoded waveform. Significant increase in data transfer efficiency is provided in this technique.
