Abstract
The Mission of the Naval Health Research Center (NHRC), as assigned by the Secretary of the Navy, and the functions to be performed to accomplish the mission, as assigned by the Chief, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, are as follows; MISSION -- to conduct research and development on the medical and psychological aspects of health and performance of naval service personnel; and to perform such other functions or tasks as may be directed by the Chief, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery; and Functions -- (a) Conduct research on demographic and sociological factors related to health patterns and related behavior among naval service personnel, (b) Conduct research on psychological stress in relation to illness and maladjustment in naval service occupations and duty environments, (c) Conduct research on psychophysiological aspects of health and the physical and emotional fitness for work performance among naval service personnel, (d) Conduct research on the epidemiology, prevention, and control of infectious diseases affecting performance of naval service personnel, (e) Conduct epidemiological research on the biological and physical aspects of naval environments in relation to health and safety of naval service personnel, (f) Disseminate the results of research in such a manner as to ensure adequate communication with naval activities concerned and the scientific community in general, and (g) Provide or undertake such other appropriate functions as may be authorized or directed by higher authority.
