The Distribution of the Number of Targets that will be Randomly Engaged by a Group of Weapons

Abstract

This report develops the probability distribution for the number of targets engaged when each of m weapons selects a target at random from a set of n targets. The results are applicable to wargaming studies in which available firepower must be divided among available targets. Also presented are tables of these probabilities and the expected number of targets engaged.
