Data Acquisition System for Use in the Study of Geomagnetic Variations.

Abstract

The study of the variations in the geomagnetic field requires a small, low power digital acquisition system. This thesis describes the design of a digital data acquisition system for such use. The design uses the complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) version of the INTEL 8048 single chip microcomputer and a high density data recorder. The microcomputers do not take data internally, instead they route data over a separate data bus. Two intermediate data memories are used; alternating between being written onto by the acquisition circuit and being read from for writing to the data recorder. (Author)
