A Framework for Computer Architecture.

Abstract

This paper presents a framework for computer architecture which is based on the principle function of a computer to perform a mapping from some input into an output. A set of recursive functions is developed to represent computer architecture at any desired level of detail. The definitions are insensitive to whether the functions are realized in software, hardware or firmware. The approach is illustrated using examples. (Author)
