Localizer Traveling Wave Antenna Development.

Abstract

Federal Aviation Administration Systems and Research and Development efforts have resulted in the development of a set of Instrument Landing System localizer antenna arrays of the traveling wave type. These arrays including integral monitors have been shown capable of overcoming the major shortcomings associated with earlier antennas. The results of this effort are summarized. Distinguishing performance characteristics are pointed out for each of the so-called Type O, 1A, 1B and II antenna arrays.
