Flood Plain Information, Ellicott Creek in the City of Tonawanda and in the Towns of Tonawanda, Amherst, Cheektowaga, and Lancaster, Erie County, New York.

Abstract

This report is intended to provide planners and local governments with technical information on the largest known floods of the past and to present data on possible future floods known as the Intermediate Regional Flood and the Standard Project Flood. This report is based on hydrological facts, historical and recent flood heights, and other technical data bearing upon the occurrence and magnitude of floods in the Ellicott Creek area. Included in this report are maps, profiles and cross sections which indicate the extent of flooding that has been experienced and that which might occur in the future. These data; if properly used, can be very beneficial in wise flood plain management. From the maps, profiles and cross sections in this report the depth of probable flooding at any location by a recurrence of one of the past floods or by the future occurrence of either the Intermediate Regional flood or the Standard Project Flood may be determined.
