Preservation and Enhancement of the American Falls at Niagara.
Abstract
This report describes the physical setting of the Falls, the activities of the Commission and its American Falls International Board during the course of this investigation and the Commission's rational for the conclusions and recommendations that emerged. Specifically, the Commission was asked to investigate and recommend measures that are feasible and desirable to remove the talus which has collected at the base of the American Falls and to retard or prevent erosion. The Commission was also asked to recommend other measures which may be desirable or necessary to preserve or enhance the beauty of the American Falls and the allocation of the work and the costs of construction between the United States and Canada. The Commission was asked to bear in mind the obligations of Canada and the United States contained in the Niagara Treaty of 1950 and the mutual interests of the two countries in refraining from measures which might preserve or enhance one of the Falls to the detriment of the other.
