Stream Channel Stability.

Abstract

This volume was written to describe how to carry out an analysis of a channel stability problem. Therefore it is rather general; only the last chapters describe problems of channel stability in the Yazoo River Basin. Detailed reports of the various research projects associated with this study of channel stability problems in the Yazoo River Basin are presented as Appendices. They are completely independent reports. The overall research program had five major objectives: (1) Determining the influence of grade control structures on channel stability; (2) Monitoring the performance of selected channel stabilization methods; (3) Evaluating the effects of geology, geomorphology, soils, land use, and climate on runoff and sediment production from major source areas; (4) Estimating the water and sediment production from a large, mixed-land-use watershed and the integrated effects on channel stability; and (5) Evaluating the relation between valley stratigraphy and channel morphology and their combined effects on channel stability.
