Flood Plain Information, Pennypack Creek, Meadow Brook, Southampton Creek, Huntingdon Valley Creek, Blair Mill Run, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.

Abstract

This report was a study of the areas within the Upper Pennypack Creek watershed, Montogomery County, Pa. which were susceptible to flooding. These areas include those surrounding Meadow Brook, Huntington Valley Creek, Southampton Creek and Blair Mill Run. Residential, commercial and industrial properties were moderately damaged by large floods in July 1931, Nov. 1950, Aug. 1967 and August 1971. A history of flooding along Pennypack Creek and its tributaries in Montgomery County was presented. This report included maps, photos, profiles and cross sections among its data. Under authority of Section 206 of the 1960 Flood Control Act as amended the flood plain information was prepared by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Philadelphia District at the request of the Montgomery County Planning Commission. The information should be considered for its historical nature. Since the publication of this PPI report other Flood Insurance studies have been undertaken and should also be consulted for more current information. (Author)
