Flood Plain Information, Toms River, Union Branch Ridgeway Branch, and Long Swamp Creek, Ocean County, New Jersey.

Abstract

The portions of Ocean County covered by this report were subject to flooding from Tom's River and its tributaries, Union Branch, Ridgeway Branch, and Long Swamp Creek. These areas were moderately damaged by floods of 1950, 1962 and 1968. Included within the scope of this study was a history of flooding in Ocean County near Toms River. Special emphasis was given to these floods thru maps, photographs, profiles and cross sections. Under authority of Section 206 of the 1960 Flood Control Act as amended the flood plain information was prepared by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Philadelphia District at the request of the Ocean County Planning Board. The information should be considered for its historical nature. Since the publication of this FPI report other Flood Insurance studies have been undertaken and should also be consulted for more current information. (Author)
