Computer Simulation Techniques for Artificial Modification of the Ionosphere.

Abstract

A three-dimensional model of the ionosphere was developed including chemical reactions and neutral and plasma transport. The model uses Finite Element Simulation to simulate ionospheric modification rather than solving a set of differential equations. The initial conditions of the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory experiments, Lagopedo Uno and Dos, were input to the model, and these events were simulated. Simulation results were compared to ground and rocketborne electron-content measurements. A simulation of the transport of released SF6 was also made. (Author)
