Pole Position for 1980 Based on Doppler Observations of the GEOS-3 Satellite.

Abstract

The position of the earth's spin axis with respect to the crust (polar motion), was computed for the last three months of 1980 by the Defense Mapping Agency Aerospace Center on the basis of Doppler observations of the GEOS-3 satellite. The results were obtained as a contribution to project MERIT, an international compaign to determine the best technique to replace classical astronomical procedures used to determine polar motion since 1900.
