Laboratory Facility for Measurement of Hot Gaseous Plume Radiative Transfer.

Abstract

This report describes a facility at the Atmospheric Sciences Laboratory (ASL) for the measurement of hot gaseous plum radiative transfer in the atmosphere. The measurement sequence, by using a Fourier transform spectrometer (FTS), required to extract the hot-through-cold radiance, the source radiance, the hot cell absorption, and the long path cell transmission is detailed. Problems peculiar to hot gaseous radiative transfer measurements are addressed as well as the impact on military systems. The direction of upcoming measurements to be performed with this unique ASL facility is also described. (Author)
