Determination of Volatile Organic Content in Water-Based Paints by Gas-Liquid Chromatography.

Abstract

A gas-liquid chromatographic (glc) method for volatile organic content in water-based paints and paint resins is presented. Sample preparation prior to injection into the chromatograph consists simply of adding a suitable internal standard and dispersing in a solvent medium. Values for volatile organic content (VOC) obtained by this method are compared to corresponding VOC values determined as the difference between percent weight loss at 105 deg C and percent water by glc method ASTM D3792.
