Extension of the Schmidt and Hunter Validity Generalization Procedure to the Prediction of Absenteeism Behavior from Knowledge of Job Satisfaction and Organizational Commitment,

Abstract

Research would suggest that the relationship between job satisfaction and absenteeism is weak and inconsistent. The present study examines whether this might be explained from statistical artifacts following the validity generalization procedure developed by Schmidt and Hunter. Data on absenteeism, satisfaction and commitment were collected from 242 employees in six retail stores. Evidence of differences across stores were demonstrated. When statistical artifacts were controlled, little variability in validities remained. Application of the Schmidt and Hunter procedure to other attitude-behavior topics is discussed. (Author)
