Maximum Entropy Estimates of the Wavenumber Power Spectrum of Acoustic Data from a Linear Array of Equispaced Sensors.

Abstract

The maximum entropy method may be used to estimate the wavenumber power spectrum of data from a linear array of equispaced sensors by extrapolating a spatial covariance function. The estimation of this spatial covariance function from real data is discussed. An example is given which compares the Fourier and maximum entropy estimates of the wavenumber power spectrum of sonar data from a linear array of equispaced receivers at a number of frequencies. The sensitivity of the maximum entropy method to the length of the estimated covariance function is also illustrated. (Author)
