Evaluation of Coal Gasification/Combined Cycle Power Plant Feasibility at the Sewells Point Naval Complex, Norfolk, Virginia.

Abstract

This study evaluates the feasibility of installing a coal gasification/combined cycle cogeneration plant at Sewells Point Naval Complex, Norfolk, Virginia. The study addresses current gasification technology, combined cycle thermodynamics, environmental control requirements, and conventional coal fired cogeneration cycles. The utility interface, site considerations and economic analyses are also presented. The study includes that a coal gasification/combined cycle cogeneration plant supplying 50 MW of electric power and 290,000 lb/hr of steam is technically feasible. (Author)
