Analysis and Evaluation of Potential Competition of Interest Among the Major Powers. Volume IV. Significance of Soviet Maritime Behavior in the Third World--Some Empirical Evidence.

Abstract

Four years (1970-1973) of quantitative data on Soviet overseas Naval and Merchant Marine port visits were correlated with data on Soviet trade, economic and military assistance to examine the role of Soviet Maritime behavior within the overall framework of Soviet external involvement. Naval presence appears to be an important Soviet Naval role in the Middle East and West Africa-not in the Indian Ocean. (Author)
