Final Environmental Statement. Continental United States Over-the-Horizon Backscatter Radar System.

Abstract

The Air Force proposes to design and construct an OTH-B radar system in the United States. The initial program which is anticipated to last until approximately 1979 requires the construction and testing of a limited coverage prototype radar system in the northeastern part of the US. The proposed transmitter site is located in Moscow/Caratunk, Somerset County, Maine. The proposed receiver/operations site is located in Washington County, Maine. If the prototype proves successful, a larger operational OTH-B radar will be built. The transmitter and receiver sites will be expanded to provide for the increased coverage. The operations function will be moved to an existing, as yet unidentified, military installation. (Author)
