Manufacturing Methods and Technology for Production Hot Forging of Alkali Halide Lenses.

Abstract

The hot-forged-to-shape process has been adapted and optimized for the 2 x 3 series/parallel operation. Several of the optimization steps have led to major cost reductions and process simplifications, as well as an increase in the potential production volume. A new type of optical testing equipment is under investigation as a means of evaluating the finished lenses in a production environment. The automation of the process is almost complete and will allow for much finer control of the forging process. (Author)
