Analysis of a Proposed Material Handling System Using a Computer Simulation Model.

Abstract

A new mechanized material handling system (MMHS) will be installed in the supply warehouse at Newark Air Force Station, Ohio, in Fiscal Year 1982. The purpose of this research was to analyze the proposed system's behavior under simulated operating conditions prior to system installation. A Q-GERT simulation model was developed to study the various server and queue configurations associated with the MMHS. The analysis revealed that under simulated normal operating conditions the proposed system will perform as designed, and that a 25 percent surge in operating conditions will have significant effects on the system. Problem areas discovered in the proposed MMHS were identified to assist the managers of the system in implementation and future planning. (Author)
