Abstract

Earl Reservoir Dam is located in the Town of Woodbury, Orange County, New York, on an unnamed tributary of Woodbury Creek. The Dam was originally used for water supply but now is used for recreational purposes by the Town of Woodbury. Visual inspection revealed several deficiencies in this structure. The following items were noted: A seep is located near the toe of the embankment, right of the spillway discharge channel, The right wing wall is undercut downstream of the plunge pool; Some of the joints in the masonry core wall are deteriorated; Some of the joints in the upper portion of the wing walls are deteriorated; Drainage from a culvert at the far right downstream side of the dam has eroded a 2-foot deep ditch along the downstream toe of the dam, and A few small trees are near the junctions of the left and right abutments with the dam.
