Career Development of the Marine Corps Officer

Abstract

This thesis studies the current state of officer career development in the U. S. Marine Corps and the importance of career development to both the Marine Corps and Marine officers. Information which is of concern to the Marine Corps and the individual in developing officer career planning policies and individual strategies is presented. Current literature and studies dealing with military officer career development are discussed. Statistics on promotion opportunities based on analyses of the careers of the 65 generals on active duty in the Marine Corps as of February, 1981, are presented. Based on this data, guidance is provided on developing a career pattern for those seeking promotion to general officer rank.
