Evaluation of MS-6 Fire-Resistant Fluid for 8000 PSI Lightweight Hydraulic Systems.

Abstract

Evaluation tests and an application study were conducted on a high temperature, fire-resistant silicone base hydraulic fluid designated NADRAUL MS-6. The information developed was used to determine the practicality of using MS-6 in aircraft 8000 psi lightweight hydraulic systems. The test results indicated that MS-6 can be used in 8000 psi systems, but further development effort is needed to improve pump performance and reduce the tendency of MS-6 to foam. The application study disclosed that no serious design problems would result from the higher viscosity, higher density, and lower bulk modulus of MS-6; weight and space penalties would be incurred, however.
