Evaluation of Replacement Red Smoke Dyes for 1-N methylaminoanthraquinone

Abstract

A list of 114 dyes was compiled from a literature search for replacement red smoke dyes for 1-N methylaminoanthraquinone. Two of the dyes reviewed (9-diethylaminorosindone and O-methoxyphenylazo-B-naphthol) were found to meet the requirements for use in pyrotechnics. There are insufficient toxicological data at this time to assess the health effects of these dyes.
