Standardization of Map Symbology for Large Scale Maps.

Abstract

This report investigates the subject of standardization of map symbology for large scale engineering maps and plans. It discusses such questions as, is there a need for standardization and what criteria should be used to design the symbols. For the purposes of this thesis, 'large scale maps' or 'engineering scale maps and plans' refer to maps produced between the scales of 20 feet to the inch (1:240) and 400 feet to the inch (1:4800).
