Implementation of Anisotropic and Nonlinear Thermal Stress Models in ADINA 78.

Abstract

This report describes the improvements made to the ADINA 78 finite element computer codes in order to permit the solution of structural response problems involving very rapid heating. A material model was added to the two- and three-dimensional contimuum element types which permits the modeling of temperature dependent thermoelastic anisotropic material properties. A different material model was also added for these same continuum element types which permits the modeling of strain and temperature dependent thermoelastic anisotropic material properties. A major goal of this work was to render ADINA 78 operational on the ASC computer at the Naval Research Laboratories as well as to improve the computational efficiency of the code by vectorizing the most important loops. This work and various benchmark test cases are also described. (Author)
