Initial Experience with a Local Network -- Net/One by Ungermann-Bass, Inc.

Abstract

Net/One, the local area network produced by Ungermann-Bass, has been installed and operated in the Georgia Tech Fully Distributed Processing System's (FDPS) testbed. Currently Net/One interfaces with Prime 400, Prime 550, and PDP 11/45 computers which are located in the computer lab and several different types and brands of ASCII, asynchronous terminals. This report includes a description of the design and operation of the various Net/One components, a discussion of the rational for the selection of Net/One for installation in the FDPS testbed, our initial experiences with Net/One including problems encountered and their solutions, and concludes with a description of the plans for future enhancements to its operation.
