Finite Element Analysis of Dynamic Crack Propagation

Abstract

A finite element analysis of stationary and propagating cracks in the presence of inertia forces is presented. An extension of the J-integral approach is employed. To model a propagating crack, a conceptually simple yet effective technique has been developed. The new crack propagation scheme eliminates the difficulties associated with the use of moving singular elements. (Author)
