Impurity Aggregation Processes and Mechanical behavior in Solid Dielectrics.

Abstract

The aggregation and precipitation processes of divalent cation impurities in alkali halides have been followed by optical spectroscopy as well as ionic thermocurrent methods. In particular, a number of absorption and luminescence bands have been ascribed to well-defined precipitated phases. The influence of these precipitation processes on mechanical (yield-stress) behavior has been investigated and the different role of stable and metastable phases has been clearly differenciated.
