Dental History Predictors of Caries Related Dental Emergencies.

Abstract

The occurrence of dental emergencies among military personnel has the potential to adversely affect mission success. In this report the incidence of dental emergencies and the relative oral health of emergency patients at one Navy facility were examined. Statistical analysis revealed that the occurrence of dental emergencies due to caries could be reliably predicted on the basis of historical information in the dental record. Procedures were suggested whereby predictors of deep carious lesions could be used to direct intensive dental recall efforts to those at highest risk. (Author)
