Beltzville Lake Project Water Quality Data Report (RCS-DAEN-CWE-15) for the Period 1 October 1980 to 30 September 1981.

Abstract

Beltzville Lake, located on the Pohopoco Creek in Carbon County, northwest of Allentown, Pa has been in operation since Oct. 1970. The primary purposes of the project are flood control, water quality control, future water supply, low flow augmentation and recreation. This report which covers the time period 1 Oct. 1979 thru Sept. 1980 deals with the water quality aspect of the project. It includes the general characteristics of the area influenced by the dam, the project itself and the basin draining into the lake. The water quality in Beltzville Lake remains within the standards established by Pennsylvania (DER) and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. In general, following periods of heavy precipitation there is a slight increase in ammonia nitrogen and phosphorous levels with a decrease in the PH. This is associated more with run-off from surrounding areas and is not a direct function of the reservoir. (Author)
